Day 1: Amsterdam - Banjul
Today, you take a direct flight from Amsterdam to the international airport of Banjul. You will be hartily welcomed by our tour guides, whom will guide you to your hotel. If your time of arrival permits it, dinner will be ready for you.
Day 2: Banjul - Serekunda - Bakau (app. 75 km)
After breakfast, the programme contains an interesting tour through Serrekunda, Bakau and Banjul. You visit the famous and colourful Serrekunda Market, a batik factory and the Katchically crocodile farm, where you can pat a crocodile. A delicious lunch is served, after which you visit The Gambian National Museum in Banjul, in which you have a good view of normal daily life in The Gambia. This is an unforgettable start of your stay. You have dinner and a stay at your hotel.
Day 3: Banjul - JanjangBureh (app. 320 km from Georgetown)
After an early breakfast, you leave for JanjangBureh, the previous Georgetown, a center of slave trade in the 17th and 18th century. Your lunch is offered at the Baobolong Camp, which is situated on an island in the Gambia river. After lunch, you visit the locals and slave houses. At night, you enjoy an attractive dinner with local dance. You stay at the simple Baobolong Camp.
Day 4: JanjangBuren (Baobolong Camp) - MacCarthy - Wassu/Kerr Batch - JanjangBureh (app. 160 km)
After breakfast, you board for an unforgettable boat trip from MacCarthy Island, on which Georgetown is situated. During this boat trip (app. 3 hours), you can enjoy the view on for example the Baboon Island National Park. This area is famous for its beautiful bird species, snakes, and of course monkeys. You might even see hippos and crocodiles! You have lunch on board of the boat, and ultimately you moor at Kuntaur, where the bus is waiting to bring you to the famous Stone Circles of Wassu and Kerr Batch. You can compare these to the famous Stonehenge. After this visit, you return for dinner and a stay at the Baobolong Camp.
Day 5: JanjangBureh - Tendaba (app. 160 km)
After breakfast at the Baobolong Camp, you travel to the south banks of the Gambia river that gave the country its name. Via various small African villages, you will ultimately arrive at Tendaba Camp, which is situated at the bank of the river, which is lushly covered in mangrove forests. An extensive lunch is served at the Tendaba Camp. You can choose between a safari by truck through the Kiang West National Park, or a boat trip through the mangroves. At your return, dinner is served in the Tendaba Camp, which is also your place to stay for the night.
Day 6: Tendaba - Kanilai (app. 45 km)
After breakfast you leave for Kanilai, where the president of The Gambia resides. On the way, you will experience the daily life of the traditional Gambian villages. You will arrive at the Sindola Camp in the afternoon, where an excellent lunch is served. In the afternoon you have time to relax by the swimming pool in the well-maintained garden, or you may choose to visit the president's mansion (when it is open to public). You will have dinner and can participate in an evening programma at the Sindola Camp, which directly borders the presidential residence.
Day 7: Kanalai - Banjul (app. 180 km)
In the morning, you have time to enjoy the extensive breakfast and nice facilities of the Sindola Camp, after which you leave on a beautiful trip to the west. On the way, you visit a traditional Gambian community, and stop at the Lamin Lodge for a delicious lunch. The trip to Banjul is continued in the afternoon, where you arrive to have your last stay of your tour. Dinner and stay are again in one of the nice beach hotels.
Day 8: Banjul - Amsterdam
After breakfast, you have the rest of the day to do whatever you want at one of the beautiful stretched sandy beaches or by the swimming pool; some time to let all the impressions of the past days sink in. Later during the day, you will be picked up for your transfer to Banjul airport, where you can check in for your return flight to Amsterdam.
If you have chosen to extend your stay in The Gambia, you will be picked up and transported to the hotel of your choice. Here, you can relive the tour, and relax in one of the nice hotels in the TravelPoort-Gambian programme.
