Kololi Beach is the tourist heart of The Gambia, and is sometimes referred to as Senegambia area.
The main street, which connects the coastal road to the sandy beach, is locally known as "the strip", where tourist life revolves around restaurants, the casino, discotheques and clubs.
Furthermore, there are several banks, internet cafes, a local crafts market and shops.
Bordering Kololi is the Bijilo Natural Park, a fun place for a walk or meeting many monkeys that live there. A local guide can guide you through animal- and plant life. Ticket: dal. 30 p.p. (about € 0.80), guide app. dal. 50.
Our personal favourites for a meal or drink:
Jojo's
quality; dining in style in a nice garden with live music (closed during summer)
Bucarabu
value for money: great tapas and open grill and the coldest beer in The Gambia. Relaxed atmosphere, live band on Fridays.
Bini's
fine meals and nice bar. Regularly (great!) buffet on Sundays. Dutch owners.
Ali Baba
not really top notch but a lot of fun with much couleur locale and live music in "The Garden" and an organist on front.
Al Basha
Lebanese, nice and varied.
Tao
Thai restaurant. We recommend the buffet on Thursdays, but make a reservation!
Scala
For those who love a good steak
Paradiso
Great pizzas and many other dishes, always busy
Green Mamba
Great wok (all fresh!) in the garden in romantic private atmosphere.
Chossaan
not a top notch kitchen but top amusement with swinging live music in winter.
